S27 Elections
Right, the U20 election and the journalist election open shortly. If anyone has any cunning plans for what should be addressed then perhaps here's as good a place as any. Doesn't have to be on the back of a desire to run for a role oneself, if you've got something you want to see someone in either role address to help the community/deliver a win spit it out.
I'm not so fussed about the journo role, though it might be an idea for the journo to post (and I say that knowing Flo has been really stretched for time, but still), it's the U20s that interests me. There's more we can do on the U20s as regards the scouting, some of the training plans, and players getting enough games, but that's actually quite a lot of work and so far no one really wants to put that much time into it, which is understandable if one actually wants a life. But there are some big (and easy) changes which could be made on the experience front, either in the form of a 4 season u20 cycle, or by keeping YA players in the YA for at least another 14 rounds in the season they turn 17. Certainly the 4 season cycle has historically had little support in England, but it's perhaps up for debate again.
One further on the u20s is to think how and what will be fed into the NT scene. If we look at Croatia they will be in another 4+ seasons starting to feed in groups on much higher experience than anything England can attain with our current model. Yes they're at much more risk of 1-2 clubs going bot than we, but we do need some idea of how we'll progress people such they can win at NT level

Experience yes indeed play more games on higher intensity in clubs and u20 and perhaps extra season in academy
Why not do what raggs did and tent the first 2 seasons too

Re: S27 Elections
Also I am thinking we could get some 205cm flankers at some point either if we get them from our own academies or steal the best locks on the tm
If we can get six 205cm guys in our squad that's good

Tenting I'm sure is fun, perhaps a little windy and wet right now.
On the TNT front we only run two season cycles, and you'll not find many games the current U20s were not on TNT until the actual WC. So first two seasons?

Re: S27 Elections
Sub seasons
guess they just need more club games
Extreme tenting
It's probably too late for s28 but for s30 we can go tall in the back row
Need some guys dedicated to stealing locks to train as flankers early doors though unless we bag loads of cushy academy scouts

Re: S27 Elections
I don't know where we are on locks before we start worrying about tall flankers. And too one may observe the Italy game where they knocked out SA, both teams with excellent ruck ratings (SA especially), each with two back rowers below 190cm
But we can certainly look at it. Dazza, I guess first up how do the locks look? Other that is than not bright even for forwards.

Re: S27 Elections
I don't think we have a mass of players over 200cm but that could be addressed with some dual nationality players

Re: S27 Elections
I do think the most important issue at this election hasn't been addressed yet and that is; will hopmans be running for both roles?

Considering running for Journo, would anyone be willing to be an assistant or vote for me

P.S. I'd love to be involved with the U20's as an Assistant. (Attention anyone who runs for U20 Manager)

Re: S27 Elections
I think i might run again for U20. Roo has done admirably during his reign and won the WC don't forget that. I want to build on that legacy with a focus on well balanced training, optimizing lineups and tactics and a greater influence by the trainers community on training their own players.

Coming in there with the, sadly unsurprising, Baldrick version of a cunning plan.

I would focus on winning and letting trainers decide their own training and everything

Re: S27 Elections
I will be running again. 2 seasons ago, I had a child on the way and I was moving house. I wanted to have a go with the current squad, but I was keen for someone else to look after the 17 year olds.
The only 2 people to offer were, Hopmans (unfortunately that did not work out) and then Eddbutt (who moved onto nat team before really doing anything). So I ended up putting a lot of time into the next squad. Whilst this does not give me the right to be manager again, it does make me keen to make the most of the time I have already put in and run for election again.
The next squad is good, at least as good as this squad. I prefer it, with a focus on backs rather than forwards, but also well balanced. We have 4 good locks and some 200cm flankers. As for backs, they are vastly superior to this squad.
Dazza has also taken on the 17 year olds and therefore there would be no question of me stepping aside next time. It would be the same this time if Eddbutt had not moved onto the nats.
My take on 4 year cycles is we don't need it. We have won 2 of the last 4 World Cups and were not far off this time. I have had 50 trainers for both squads. Given we can put together a great team on a 2 seasons plan and luck is still needed to win the World Cup (the draw and teams throwing game have a huge impact), I feel we would win more World Cups by being competitve in every one.
I feel we could have won this World Cup, but 3rd is still good. I always saw Italy as the big threat, so the final would have been very tough.
