High Quality Subs Empty High Quality Subs

Is it worth having high quality subs in the game? I've got an old man with high CSR who's about to be relegated to the bench. He's a good player but I don't have the space for him in my squad. Is it worth paying 9 grand a week for a benchwarmer?
