Training / playing this guy.... Empty Training / playing this guy....

I've got this guy in my YA at the moment and he doesn't turn 20 until the end of next season. I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on training him and where to play him.

He is playing outside centre in my youth team (usually gets about 5 stars) but I was planning on playing him at openside in my seniors. My dilemma is that I don't think he is quite heavy / tall enough to be a first XV No.7, but his agility / kicking is a bit low to be a back.

What do people think his best position would be?

Wheeler Barnett

Left handed, left footed, in moderate form Stable.
A conservative player with controlled discipline, despicable leadership, and horrible experience.

That's a tricky one, I think that handling would be a little wasted as a forward, so I'd be tempted to put him at inside centre for the crash ball. Less focus on agility/kicking there while you train it up. The strength will come in handy too.

Yep, I know what you are saying but then this guy is by first team No.12 at the moment! Bit worried about having them both in the centres together!

i wouldnt worry just train agility a bit and your laughing

probably outruck any backs in your league and control possession

which wins a canny amount of games and also good partnership for bullying over the line in the last 10 metres

Nice one, thanks. I have a few backs in the YA that need stamina and agility training so I will probably leave him in there until next season and then pull him as a centre.

All the above is true, equally Barnett would make a decent openside. Size is okay, controlled is nice, and tech is okay. Mind if he's staying in your YA for another 19 rounds of training then you can get stamina, speed and agility all a fair bit higher anyway, if such training plan suits anyway. If you're wanting to promote him before he's 20 and train then I'd only train as a flanker, I don't think you'll get much value putting nets in the seniors on agility down at 5.

I've got a couple of half decent forwards in my YA that need stamina and tech training and a couple of decent backs in there that need speed and agility training so I'm going to set YA training to that, leave him in there for a bit and see where he ends up.

I think that will leave you a nice player. One you can promote and play 12 or 7, but I'd only still I think put nets on him were he to be developed as a 7.

Thanks. I'll leave him for a bit and see where I am when I promote him. Might need a 7 by then as mine is ageing a bit.

Wing, just wondering what you would class as 'good agility' for outside backs in a Div 3 team....?

Thanks. They aren't quite at 16/17 level yet, but they are all on agility training so I'll keep plugging away!

I'm sat top of my Div 3 league (which isn't the strongest) and I'd hope to be in the playoffs come the end of the regular league season. I can't say I notice many players (even outside backs) having 16 agility, and none certainly at 17.  Of course I likely don't meet the criteria of a good Div 3 team.

But I also wouldn't expect to pick a backline with anything worse than 13 agility in it, and this may mean Wing's point holds. If you do want to pick some power players with low agility to bosh away given available resources you'd want then to have players with at least 15 agility alongside them.

But just to be clear even in the stronger Div 3 leagues one will not find backline after backline with player after player up at 16-17 agility
